General Information

The Event

The 7th Annual Mighty Murph Event was designed to honor our heroes and support military families in the Bloomington community.  Since 2010, the Hoosier CrossFit community has donated over $30,000. Last year, $3,000 was donated to the wish for our Heroes foundation and we are excited to continue our partnership on June 3, 2017. At first, you'll look at the workout, wondering if you're prepared, maybe nervous for what you've just signed up for.  But, If you've watched "The Lone Survivor," a movie  based on Lt. Michael Murphy's sacrifice for his team and country and the inspiration for the CrossFit workout, Murph, you'll realize that no matter what you endure during this workout,  it is nothing in comparison to the brutal unknown our military encounters. Hoosier CrossFit designed the Mighty Murph Challenge, not only to help bring awareness and support the heroes in our community, but to memorialize all the heroes that risk their lives for the freedom in our country.

FAQs

1)  I can't run. Can I still participate?

Yes.  Scaling is allowed. Rowing can be a substitution for running if you are not allowed to run.  Pushups on your knees can be substituted for toe pushups.  Kipping Pullups in a band or ring rows can be substituted for bodyweight kipping pullups.


2)  I'm not a CrossFitter or member of Hoosier CrossFit, can I still participate? 

The answer is yes, but with caution.  It is an expectation that you have trained running/rowing, pushups, pullups/ring rows, and squats within your fitness regimine. Understanding your current fitness level will be important to determine which division is best for you. 

  • - Mini Murph is for beginners or those who train 2-3 days a week for less than a year.  
 
  • - Murph is for intermediate, and those who train 3-7 days a week for at least a year
 
  • - Mighty Murph is for advanced, and those who train 4-7 days a week at least a year.
 


3)  Do I have to show up at 9am?

No.  We encourage you to cheer on other heats, but you should check-in approximately 30-minutes to 1 hour before your start time.


4)  How will I know when my heat is?

When we get closer to the event, we will know how many people are registered and how many heats will go.  All particpants will be emailed a heat schedule as soon as we can confirm.

  • - Free to spectate. Volunteers to count reps are welcome.

  • - We will be having a pitch-in with burgers, snacks, and drinks during the event.
